February Photoshopping: Caveat Emptor

Working on an article regarding coral photoshopping at the moment. Spurred on by a high school friend’s viral youtube video regarding “before & after” television advertisements, I felt compelled to delve into the exposition of photoshopping techniques; how to use photo editing programs to improve your pictures, and as a consumer, how to protect yourself when buying by tweaking photos to offer truer interpretations of a coral’s colours.

Where’s Winter?

In lieu of the wet snow, I was able to drag the Mrs. out today to catch a few good deals on the reefing front. Picked up a Melanurus wrasse for $10, how could I resist? Also grabbed a small Blasto colony and a burgundy and white speckled Scoly for next to nothing. Must’ve been all the built up karma from constantly locking my keys in the car. Started a small fishroom overhaul, I’ll post some updates in the near future to help pass the time while I continue working on the site. The chaos is pictured above. Server finally settled down, allowing me to begin uploading the content we have thus far. More to come with February.

January Update

G’day all. Switched our hosting account over the holidays. Transferring the site and making a few final tweaks and adjustments while building content. If you find yourself so inclined to contribute content for the site (eg. re:scientifically sound and comprehensive reefkeeping articles OR images) please use the contact link at the top of the blog and get in touch. The podcasting gear is set up and ready to record as well; look for an announcement in the next few weeks.
